Trade Operations Officer (Fixed term – 2 years)

Job Purpose:
To administer and support the operations of trade finance products, ensuring they function effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop weekly, quarterly, and monthly plans to achieve annual objectives.
  • Monitor and manage key risk indicators, escalating issues promptly.
  • Adhere to delegated authority matrices during transaction processing.
  • Conduct pre-submission screening of trade transactions (AML/sanctions checks) using the AML checklist.
  • Verify availability of valid, approved customer facility letters for LCs, guarantees, avalized bills, and trade loans. Confirm utilization aligns with approved limits, pricing, and terms before submission.
  • Perform daily reviews of trade finance entries and end-of-month reconciliations for LCs, Cash Cover, Guarantees, and Trade Loans.
  • Ensure compliance with operations manuals and process maps for trade finance products, handling applications, payments, and claims accurately and efficiently.
  • Process and review inward/outward SWIFT messages daily, tracking closure.
  • Monitor maturity reports for LC Bills, Import LCs, Bank Guarantees, Trade Loans, and unpaid Export Bills, initiating settlement/closure for expired or non-performing contracts.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in trade finance product operations and terms.
  • Understanding of Financial Consumer Protection Regulations.
  • Knowledge of international trade operations and associated risks.
  • Proficiency in KYC, customer due diligence, and financial crime monitoring.
  • Strong analytical, communication, report-writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Negotiation skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in banking, finance, accounting, or related fields.
  • CITF, CPA, or CPB certification (advantageous).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in trade finance operations.
  • Prior banking operations experience, preferably in payments.
